A Place to Live

Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway's vision of the 21 st Century Home with Charlotte Abrahams

A Place to Live is a call to arms aimed at anyone who believes that the homes and communities in which we live have a significant influence on our life chances, our wellbeing and our happiness. Through thought-provoking essays (by amongst others Alain de Botton, John Bird, Grant Shapps and Tom Dyckhoff), inspirational case studies and info-rich fact files, A Place to Live provides an insight into a world where homes are adaptable from cradle to grave and where we can step out of those homes into wonderfully landscaped pocket parks with communal barbecues, sit-outeries and space for children to be free range. Where there are shops within walking distance of our homes whose profits are shared by the community. Where there are free, outdoor gyms and streets that are safe enough for the kids to play games. Where cheap, convenient private and public transport makes owning a car unnecessary, where there's access
to great local healthcare, education and leisure facilities, where we don't have to moan about developers or the local council and where we have a real say in how our local area is run. Part manifesto and part inspirational sourcebook, A Place to Live aims to kick-start a wider creative insurgency that will result in homes and communities that serve us all better.
